Detailed Test Explanation

Use these instructions so every coach tests players in the same way. Standard testing matters because one small change in distance, timing, surface, or rest period can affect the final score.

10-Meter Sprint

This test measures the player’s first-step acceleration. In football, this matters when a player has to beat an opponent to a loose ball, press quickly, or make a short explosive run.

SetupMark a start line and finish line exactly 10 meters apart. Use cones or flat markers. Test on the same surface every time.
How to conductPlayer starts from a still standing position behind the line. Start timing on first movement and stop when the chest crosses the finish line.
ScoringRecord time in seconds. Lower time means better acceleration. Give each player two attempts and keep the best result.

30-Meter Sprint

This test measures speed over a longer football sprint. It is useful for wingers, strikers, fullbacks, and defenders who need recovery speed.

SetupMark a straight 30-meter lane. Keep the lane clear and make sure the player has enough space after the finish line to slow down safely.
How to conductPlayer starts behind the line. On the coach’s signal, the player sprints through the finish line without slowing before the line.
ScoringRecord the best time from two attempts. Lower time means better speed. Rest for at least 2 minutes between attempts.

Illinois Agility Test

This test checks how well a player can accelerate, decelerate, turn, and change direction under control. It connects directly with pressing, 1v1 defending, and quick match movements.

SetupCreate a 10m x 5m rectangle. Place four cones at the corners and four cones down the center line with equal spacing for weaving.
How to conductPlayer sprints, turns around cones, weaves through the middle cones, and finishes through the final gate as fast as possible.
ScoringRecord total time in seconds. Lower time means better agility. Add a repeat attempt if the player knocks a cone heavily or runs the wrong route.

T-Test

The T-Test measures lateral movement, balance, body control, and the ability to move forward, sideways, and backward. It is especially useful for midfielders and defenders.

SetupPlace four cones in a T shape: start cone at the bottom, center cone 10 meters ahead, left cone 5 meters from center, and right cone 5 meters from center.
How to conductSprint forward to the center, shuffle left, shuffle right across to the far cone, shuffle back to center, then backpedal to start.
ScoringRecord time in seconds. Lower time is better. Player should not cross feet during shuffles because the test is measuring controlled lateral movement.

Slalom Dribble

This test measures close ball control while changing direction. It shows whether the player can move with the ball under pressure without losing rhythm.

SetupPlace 10 cones in a straight line, 1 meter apart. Start line should be 1 meter before the first cone.
How to conductPlayer dribbles through every cone using controlled touches, turns at the final cone, and dribbles back through the same line.
ScoringRecord time in seconds. Lower time is better, but the player must keep control. Add penalty time if a cone is skipped or knocked far away.

Figure-8 Dribble

This test checks ball mastery, turning quality, weak-foot use, and control around tight angles. It is a simple but powerful test for younger players.

SetupPlace two cones 5 meters apart. The player starts next to one cone with the ball under control.
How to conductOn the whistle, the player dribbles around both cones in a figure-8 pattern for 30 seconds. Encourage both feet and tight turns.
ScoringCount completed full laps. Higher laps means better ball control and turning speed. Do not count a lap if the player loses full control of the ball.

Wall Pass Test

This test measures passing rhythm, first touch, body shape, and consistency. It is useful for checking whether a player can pass and receive quickly.

SetupPlayer stands 2 meters from a flat wall or rebound board. Mark the standing area so every player uses the same distance.
How to conductFor 30 seconds, the player passes against the wall, controls the rebound, and repeats. Only clean controlled passes should be counted.
ScoringCount successful wall passes in 30 seconds. Higher count is better. Missed touches, uncontrolled rebounds, or passes outside the area do not count.

Target Passing Accuracy

This test measures passing accuracy under a simple target condition. It helps identify players who can find teammates or play through gates with precision.

SetupCreate small cone gates or mini-goals at 5m, 10m, and 15m. Keep the ball starting point fixed for every player.
How to conductGive 10 passes. Player must pass the ball through the target gate with correct weight and direction.
ScoringAccuracy percentage = successful passes divided by total passes x 100. Example: 7 successful passes out of 10 = 70%.

Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test

This test measures football endurance. Unlike a normal long run, it reflects match fitness because football requires repeated high-intensity runs with short recovery.

SetupSet a 20-meter running lane and a 5-meter recovery zone. Use the Yo-Yo audio beep track and keep players in clearly marked lanes.
How to conductPlayers run 20m out and 20m back before the beep, then walk/jog through the recovery zone. Speed increases as levels progress.
ScoringRecord the final level reached before the player misses the beep twice or cannot maintain the required pace. Higher level means better football stamina.

Coach Testing Rules

These rules keep testing fair and professional for all players across all Hindustan United batches and locations.

Before Testing
  • Warm up for 10–12 minutes.
  • Explain and demonstrate the route once.
  • Use the same surface, cones, distance, and timing process.
During Testing
  • Give clear start signals.
  • Allow proper rest between sprint attempts.
  • Record results immediately to avoid confusion.
After Testing
  • Share one strength and one improvement area with the player.
  • Compare players mainly with their own previous score, not only with other players.
  • Repeat the same test cycle every month.
